Rocky Fork Road Widening Project
Project Description
In an effort to further improve its transportation infrastructure and to respond to and prepare for planned growth, the Town of Nolensville is preparing a corridor study and associated design to improve the functionality of Rocky Fork Road for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The study includes the development of conceptual design options for Rocky Fork Road from Nolensville Road (US 31A/US 41A) to Rock Springs Road (approximately 1.7 miles). The study will consider alternatives for intersection types, number of travel lanes, and multi-modal connectivity. The result will be a recommended design concept that will progress into engineering and eventually construction. The intent of the project is to create a new “complete street” that blends in with the fabric of the community while meeting the current and future (2045) mobility and safety needs for Nolensville.

Corridor Features
The Rocky Fork Road corridor study, as seen on the map, begins at the intersection of Nolensville Road (US 31A/US 41A) and ends at the intersection of Rock Springs Road (approximately 1.7 miles). There are multiple residential developments and neighborhoods along the corridor, as well as large-lot single family residences and farm land. There is one home on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), the Sherwood Green Home, and it is located across Rocky Fork Road from Sherwood Green Estates. Important community facilities on the corridor include Nolensville Elementary School and Nolensville Park (accessed via Mill Creek Lane and Nolensville Park Road from Rocky Fork Road). New commercial and retail development is located in close proximity to the intersections of Rocky Fork Road and Nolensville Road. Rocky Fork Road is utilized by citizens and commuters to get to and from these key features, as well as Rutherford County and I-24.

Project Schedule
The corridor study began in December 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2023. The schedule includes opportunities for the public to provide feedback on the project progress and the various corridor concepts that are developed as part of the study. The final results of the study will include a recommended roadway improvement concept that includes number of lanes, intersection improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian facility recommendations.
